Even if all the Bibles on earth are burnt up, yet the Gospel can never be lost for the word of God abides forever. Even if heaven and earth passes away it is still waiting for us, to work in us and bring forth fruits of Eternal Life as it was from the beginning.
The bible is a book which contains the message of the Gospel It is a means God uses to teach us about the reality of the Gospel, yet it is not an end in itself. For God does use other means to teach us the Gospel, like through direct revelation, visions, dreams, nature, etc., and all this will confirm to what is written in the scriptures.
Now if the Gospel was just the bible and only that then what do we lose? In fact, we will have a better advantage than the first Church who might not have all the new testament letters combined in a book. especially the book of revelation which was written when some of the disciples laid there mortal bodies to be with the LORD.
You see, we do not need a revival of right head doctrines, we have that here with us with plenty Bibles. What we lost is a willing heart, the poverty in spirit which hungers and thirsts after righteousness.
The Gospel brings in the fruits of righteousness and holiness but alas, how can a generation full of self and private ambition have any true hunger for righteousness? No, what we hunger after is the restoration of "head doctrines," not the working of those truths in our daily challenges and trials. This was the revival of the Pharisees, just endless saying of right things without doing. So we have a lot of division based on differences in doctrinal view not, division base on our stand on holiness. We can work together even with the most hardhearted unrepentant souls as long as we have the same doctrinal views but separate with those who will not agree with us in some doctrinal view though they are living a holy life.
How can we claim we are hungering after righteousness and still ease at lust, malice, selfishness, unforgiveness, uncaring, seeking mans glory and man pleasing, worldly fashion and amusement, carnality, no spiritual exercise like prayer and fasting etc. We think we are Justified before the LORD because we know the right doctrine in the head and teach it well.
What a generation of Vipers and hypocrites we are. Like in the case of the Pharisees the LORD will still have to admonish the innocent seeking souls to do what we say but not as we do.
We cannot do what we say because like the Pharisees we have refused to return to the LORD to brings forth fruits of eternal Life because we know to return to the old path we knew before will cost our lives, plans, ambition and a forsaking of the judgment of our emotions and natural understanding; thinking to gain eternal life by knowing the right doctrine in the head without the work of Christ in us who is the only hope of manifesting Gods glory.
Think of any saint, prophet or apostle in the past you are inclined to think but we will say this: our hope is not for a restoration of a type of a certain prophet or apostle in the past. No, believe it or not we still have true apostles and prophets with us here today. This is not the problem, the problem is us, there is only one Savior and to HIS sacrifice no other apostle or prophet can add. It is complete, waiting for us to produce its fruits in us daily.
If Apostle Paul didn't lay down all, He could have never gain Christ. This is the history of all overcoming saints. How Childish we are to waste our time counting them joyful, forgetting the fact that they endured to bring forth those fruits in pain and tribulation.
It was not an automatic thing on their part, neither will it be on our part, because God is not a respecter of persons. What we run from is what they faced, this is what brings the difference.
They died daily so that Christ can produce fruits in them and we will not die daily for Christ to produce fruits in us. We talk about dying to self as a doctrine while we are full of self and privatization of our natural inheritance; while in their case no man owned anything as His or her own . As they did this in the natural, so also did they allow this reality to work in the spiritual by laying all there soulish life under the working of the Cross.
We cry, "we need another Elijah" but that is just another nonsense to excuse our lukewarmness and selfishness. Will that Elijah teach another way to Christ apart from laying down this Life which is so dear to us and to daily wait upon the LORD in prayers and occasional fasting to receive strength and guidance ? If Christ died so that we will die with HIM, do we think a mere man will die or lay his selfish life so that we will not die or lay our selfish life?
Let John the Baptist, Paul or apostle Peter etc come again. Some will be surprised, that it will be this very simple gospel message of laying our lives to bear fruits through the working of Christ in us that they will still preach.
No other way to Christ but the Cross , which must cross our selfish nature and destroy it to produce a new man from glory to glory. Amen.
